Travel is a must- as a family. Its not only to have fun but also helps in having a better bonding in the family . But planning long vacations every time isn’t a cake walk. That’s when weekend getaways come to the rescue. All that’s needed is a quick planning a little ahead of your travel dates, and you could take the easiest mode of transport- road or rail, although a flight is the last option.

1. Valley of Flowers in Kaas

Did you know that the Kaas Plateau {also known as Kaas Pathar} is a UNESCO World Heritage site? In September, the Kaas plateau is lush with flowers of every colour and variety. Located at a distance of about 280km, it’s a 6 hours drive from Mumbai.

If you’re looking for a quiet time surrounded by nature, this is the place for you. You can sit by the lake and read a book peacefully.

For the slightly adventurous, there is an easy but interesting trek. You can climb to an altitude of about 3650m with hardly any effort. The slope is gradual and you’ll have to walk an unpaved path. Sounds like fun right!

2. Darjeeling

Darjeeling is one of the oldest places that entices you with the toy train ride, allowing you to drink in the wilderness of Darjeeling through panoramic views while on the move.

A trek to the Tiger Hill provides a  mesmerizing view of the sunrise.  Many families have strengthened their bonds by strolling along the famous Darjeeling tea and rock gardens,  taking a cable car ride or plonking down for a picnic on the foothills of the waterfalls.

3. Gir National Park
